33 week Course
The North Shore Micmac District Council in partnership with NBCC and the Aboriginal Workforce Development Initiative’s ASTSIF (Aboriginal Skills And Training Strategic Investment Fund) program are gearing up to offer an Aboriginal Fisheries Essential Skills Development training for participants interested in pursuing training in Aboriginal
Fisheries.
We are recruiting between12-14 participants from the Eel Ground, Metepenagiag and Burnt Church First Nation’s that are currently in fisheries or want to become involved in the fishery industry.
Timeline & Areas of study
Monday April 12, 2010 – July 2, 2010 (12 weeks)
• Life Skills & Essential skills Development
Participants will have the opportunity to improve on pre-employment and essential skills such as: reading, writing and numeracy as well as time management, budgeting & money management, dressing for success, getting along with others, computers, landing quality
groundfish, marine emergency duties (med’s).
October 2010 – March 2011(21 weeks)
• Fisheries Management of Small Vessels
*Participants will finish with a Fisheries Management Certificate from NBCC.
