North Shore Mi’kmaq Tribal Council general manager Jim Ward announced as clean energy working group member

On February 21st, 2024, the Government of New Brunswick, Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development shared the following announcement:

“FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has announced the members of the energy transition working group, which will engage First Nations and key stakeholders on its recently released clean energy strategy.

The group was established as part of the clean energy strategy Powering our Economy and the World with Clean Energy - Our Path Forward to 2035, which was released in December 2023. The working group’s mandate is to solicit specific feedback in order to further develop the actions that have been identified in the four key strategic areas: affordability; energy security and reliability; economic growth; and regulatory reform.

‘We have four key strategic areas with actions in our new energy strategy on which we are seeking engagement,” said Natural Resources and Energy Development Minister Mike Holland. “This feedback will assist in the further development and refinement of the actions identified through ongoing dialogue and is key to moving our clean energy strategy forward.’

The members of the working group are:

·         Wayne Power, chair of the Energy Secretariat

·         Michelle Robichaud, president of Atlantica Centre for Energy

·         Jim Ward, general manager of the North Shore Mi’kmag Tribal Council

·         David Campbell, president of Jupia Consultants Inc.

The clean energy strategy outlines how the energy landscape will transition in New Brunswick; how the energy mix will change; the actions needed; economic opportunities being created; and the impact the transition will have on the ways New Brunswickers think about and use energy. Last month the provincial government released its Hydrogen Roadmap as a key component of the strategy.

The working group will now begin a 120-day process to complete its mandate.”
